Josh is a genius!

February 15, 2008

On Valentine’s Day evening, we had a work dinner/event to celebrate the end of an audit engagement. This client is the only time we have ever worked together, so we both attended Casinopoly at Grand Casino Baden with 8 other co-workers. The event was fun but it got even better when the dinner and games were over and we went into the actual casino. We each got 15 francs of chips to play with to begin the night. Several people used it on roulette and surprisingly, some didn’t immediately lose it all.

Josh and some others headed to the BlackJack table. I wandered around the casino holding my free rose from the casino trying to decide how to use my 15 francs. I eventually went to the BlackJack table and decided to play a couple of hands. Then I noticed it was a 20 franc minimum. Good grief! I looked at Josh’s large stack of chips wondering how much of it he paid for and how much he won and then asked to borrow a 5 franc chip to play one hand.

Well, I won the first hand and the second hand and took a break and then lost it later into the evening. On to the interesting part…the guys (Josh, James-partner, Paul-manager, Rich-partner) had been sitting at the table for a couple of hours and they were all winning. A LOT. Paul hit so many blackjacks! It was unbelievable! Of course, the casino didn’t like this much and decided to close the table about 12:30. In the end, James was up CHF 600, Paul was up CHF 400, Rich was about even and Josh was up…CHF 1000! This is about US $900! Everyone went to cash out and the cashier asked Josh if he wanted big bills or small bills. Josh said big bills and look at what we got.

We were both in awe of it and didn’t know what to do. We had never seen a 1000 bill before! Finally, Josh went back to the cashier and said we want small bills instead of big bills and he then proceeded to give Josh CHF 200 bills instead…only in Switzerland.

Good grief! I wouldn’t know what to do with that!
